Today, there are all sorts of controls governing our every behavior and restictions on what we can say, think, act or do.
Fences, Traffic Lights, passports, food limits, marriage, etc.
We seem to be moving to a place where all these controls are creating a world in which every individual is being contolled and supressed by some means. America is supposed to be the land of the free, but nobody is really free and their are a lot of freedoms being suppressed every day and there seems to be no end in sight.
I know that everybody has to get along, that is why there are restrictions, but where is the median? Nobody seems to be able to be who they are. They are expected to act, think and be a certain way.
It seems as though the people who are the “outlaws” put restrictions on the rest of us. It’s like the Movie 1984, but with a twist and we can’t help but move in that direction, where we are nothing but some robotic creatures. I no loner like being a robot and following the masses.

If I want to run a red light and I don’t see anyone around, especially a cop, I will run it. Not necessarily during the busiest times of day, but I know how to cross the street. At any moment that I can seize the opportunity to have my freedom and do what I want, I do.

And the murders would follow, justifying the policy change of cracking down on “assault rifles,” gun shows and the like.
“So,” I said, “you’re saying that this was a deliberate attempt by policymakers at the highest levels of the Obama administration to subvert the Second Amendment and further diminish the free exercise of firearm rights of honest citizens?”

Hey everyone!
i was born in albania, and i’m really happy that i left the country when i was three. my dad and my step mom have brought me there on “vacation”, and i hated everything about it.
of course, it’s a third world country, but that’s not even my main problem.
Everyone complains about how the powers goes out in the afternoon, or how they are secluded fro the rest of the world, and yet do absolutely nothing about it except sip glasses of raki at 11am after mass to criticize who was and wasn’t attending.
And that’s even without mentioning all the problems related to the Albanian mob, the prostitution, drug traffic…
Also, a few months ago, i had to deal with an incestuous cousin (that was gross, and a difficult time), which for some reason makes me think even less of my birth country. Seriously, in what kind of social context do people think it’s okay to be in love with your cousin?
I think behaviour is the worst problem there:
the relatives of mine that live in Albania are all acting in a sexist way, and on top of that, seem to believe all they have to do with their children is make sure they go to school and are fed.
What about getting them something to do except play on the computer or wander around the house aimlessly? or actually talking at dinner?
What’s more, even my father, who lives in switzerland with me, and usually is a kind and considerate person, behaves that way when family comes over at our house. Suddenly, wife and children are meant to prepare, serve, and clean dishes. It’s like he can’t be seen doing that sort of stuff around his brothers and sisters.
From what i can see, the country has deep issues. I know the difficult history of the country (god knows i’ve heard enough about it), but i still think that reclusion and tense political situations are no excuse now, almost 20 years after communism ended, and the country was freed.
I also know i probably won’t be renewing my albanian passport next time it expires (as i’m 19 i have the choice), or care enough to learn the language properly. I know that most people think it’s betrayal to feel animosity towards your own country, but i suppose that incident with my cousin was what made me snap. Until then, i was willing to learn to read and write the language, but now, i feel like there is noI just know i have nothing i can or want to offer to Albania, and it also goes the other way around.
I hope it wasn’t too long to read, but i really had to get it out, as it’s been bothering me recently. Obviously, i can’t tell this to my family, they would be really offended, but i just don’t believe in blind patriotism.

I think you have a right to feel however you feel. Don’t distance the thought of Albania completely for you are still growing mentally. Most of it seems to be your family itself, but I believe every human being has a right to surround themselves with what they need to grow into the person they want to be. If you do not like your country’s culture, you shouldn’t have it forced upon you.
Be proud of who you are as a person and whatever you feel will influence you wrongly or stifle you as a decent human being do not allow its influence. They will always be your family, but sometimes we learn what not to do from them, not what to do. You sound like you are well intentioned in your feelings and that is a good thing. Once again though, don’t ignore your heritage, all cultures have something good and more often then not, have many mistakes, but we learn and change. And its up to each generation what to keep and what to let go of.
